by | Nov 17, 2022 | Dried Fruits, driedfigs, driedfruits, Figs, Iran

1,100 tons of figs were produced in East Azerbaijan province this year. The export of Iranian dried figs has decreased by about 20 percent in the first nine months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.
Fruit of subtropical regions
According to the Agriculture Organization of East Azerbaijan province, 1,100 tons of figs have been harvested this year in the province. Fig is a fruit of subtropical regions. The fig tree is resistant to heat. However it is sensitive to cold weather, especially when the tree is young. The area under fig cultivation is 135 hectares in the province, of which 130 hectares are fertile, and 5 hectares are non-fertile.
The fig orchards of East Azerbaijan province are mainly in Jolfa, Mianeh, and Marand cities. The area of fig orchards is 106 hectares in Jolfa. Almost 80 percent of the orchards and 85 percent of the figs produced in East Azerbaijan belong to this city.
Custom Statistics
According to the Iran customs statistics, 6,279 tons of dried figs worth 18,946,263 USD were exported from the beginning of this year to the end of September (the first nine months of 2022). The average price of dried figs exported by Iran has been 3.02 USD per kilogram during this period.
The export of Iranian figs has declined in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year. 7,904 tons of dried figs worth 23,949,194 USD (3.03 USD per kilogram) were exported from Iran in the first nine months of 2021. The export of this product has dropped by about 20 percent in the first nine months of this year compared to last year.
Rise in demand, rise in price
The demand for Iranian dried figs increased last month with the arrival of the new year product in the market. This increase in demand led to a rise in the price of this product in the domestic market of Iran and international markets compared to last month. The increase in the price of this product was due to the rise in demand compared to the past month. Also, the exchange rate of foreign currencies rose by about 3.5 percent in the Iranian market in the past two weeks due to the continuation of protests against the government in Iran and the halt of negotiations to revive the JCPOA.
In total, the price of Iranian dried figs for export increased by 4 to 6 percent compared to last month. The cost of higher-quality figs rose by 5 to 6 percent, and the price of medium-quality figs rised by 4 to 5 percent.
