Harvest and export season of fresh figs has started meanwhile in Aydın. Figs are produced on approximately 400.000 acres in Aydın, and an average of 200.000 mt of product is obtained per season. 70.000 mt of the fruit, most of which is consumed fresh, is dried.
However, market players inform that fig trees are nowadays stressed due to scorching temperatures and that unmatured figs are drying on the trees. Whether this shall reduce the yield is a question for the time being for which the answer can be obtained after the Crop estimation studies are expected to start within these weeks. Raw material prices for the remaining dried figs from the current season are still fluctuating between 38 and 40 TL/kg. Turkey exported 666 mt of dried figs and figs products last week, 498 mt during the same week of Last Year. The total of exports ranges at 63.976 mt of this crop which was 64.193 mt in the same period of the last Season.
